A transformer is a stationary power plant that can reduce or decrease the alternating voltage without loss of energy, it reduces the voltage of the alternating current, hence this voltage is called the alternating voltage, decreasing the voltage of the transformer current without any changing it. 

Transformer was invented by Michael faraday and Joseph Henry showed it to the public in 1831.

 This lowers the voltage of the alternating current, so this voltage is called the alternating voltage.

Its simple use is as the transformer reduces the voltage such that a device operates on a 12 volt direct current, then the transformer reduces the alternating current in our house, whose voltage is 220 volt, to 12 volt.Then use rectifier to convert it to dc voltage.

A transformer is a passive electrical device that transfers (electrical energy) to two or more circuits.

 Generally "electronic transformer is a simple and easy static or static electro-magnetic electronic device that works on Faraday's principle of law of induction."

 Transformers are mostly used in circuits to step up (increase) or step down (decrease) the voltage levels.  That is, its main use is to decrease and increase the voltage current.

The transformer has three main parts -
Electric transformer

1. Primary winding

2. Core

3. Secondary winding

1) - Primary winding - The winding that receives electrical power from the source is called primary winding.

 2) - Core - It is used to provide a path to the magnetic flux generated in the transformer.The core of the transformer is not a solid steel bar, it is a structure that consists of thin laminated sheets or layers of steel.
This transformer structure is used because heat reduces considerably from this structure.This structure is used to reduce and eliminate heat.

 Two types of cores are used in electronic transformers.

 i) Core type - In this type of core I windings are wrapped outside the laminated core.

 ii) Shell type - In this type of core, the windings are inside the laminated core.

 3) Secondary winding - The winding that gives us the desired output voltage is called secondary winding.

How to working transformer 

When there is a input voltage, the primary winding is used apply then Alternating CURRENT (Remedy Section) seems to be flow in primary winding.
This causes a (magnetic field) in the transformer core when it bits the magnetic field secondary winding then alternating voltage occurs in secondary winding.

By proportion of both winding wire turns we can know which transformer is transformer and what will be output voltage.

The ratio of output voltage and input voltage is equal to the proportion of both windings of wire turns.

The output voltage of a transformer is more than the input voltage, if the number of wire turns of its secondary winding is more than the wire turns of primary winding.

Therefore, this type of transformer If the turns in secondary winding are low then output voltage, input will be less than voltage, so it says Step Down Transformer.

NOTE :- The windings in the transformer are not electrically connected to each other but are magnetically connected to each other.

Types of Transformer 

 There are many types of transformers, which are used for different purposes in electrical power device.For example, in power generation, transformer is used in power distribution and in transmission.

 Transformers  can be classified on the basis of voltage level, core medium used, winding arrangements and their usage.

 Types of transformers based on their voltage levels

Step-up transformer- A transformer that increases the voltage current between primary winding to secondary winding is called step-up transformer.It has more than secondary windings, primary windings.

Step-down transformer - A transformer that reduces the voltage between the primary winding to the secondary winding is called a step-down transformer.There are fewer than secondary windings, primary windings.

 Depending on the type of transformer core medium -

These types of transformers are classified on the basis of the core between the primary and secondary winding.

Air core transformer - In such electronic transformers the primary and secondary windings are wrapped in an asymmetric strip.Here the flux linkage between the primary and secondary windings is by wind.

The mutual inductance of this type of transformer is less than that of iron metal core.

In this type of electronic transformer, hysteresis and eddy current loss are completely eliminated.

Iron core transformer - In iron core transformers the primary and secondary windings are wrapped in an iron metal core.Which provides the best linkage path to the generated flux.  The efficiency of these transformers is higher than air core type transformers.
